Questions to be asked while interviewing ASM/RSM.
Dear all,
I keep busy as I am pursuing some higher studies and therefore I hardly get time to write blogs. (or is it excuse for procrastination ?)
For any company anywhere, its real assets and strength is its manpower. Manpower can make or break any organization. It is due to the increased importance of manpower of an organization in helping it achieve its goals with less cost, that it is referred to as human capital.
If investment in this capital is made judiciously then it is not difficult for any organization to achieve its goals. It is in this back drop, hiring right kind of people for any organization is very important.
But attracting and hiring right employees is easier said than done. Good employees are needed everywhere.
Thus attracting, interviewing and selecting the right people with right skills, right knowledge and above all the right attitude has come to assume a very important role in today's competitive environment.
After all how better can you judge a candidate in 30-45 minutes of personal interview.
It is no secret that during interview every candidate is on his/her best. He/she is there to SELL himself/herself and naturally he/she will do his best to project best of his traits during interview.

Interviewing is an art and science itself. It requires
great deal of experience to interview well. Interview is one of medium to judge
suitability of candidate for the job . For organizations to Survive and thrive
there has to be perfect match between the job and the candidate.
To make better selection of employees most of organizations are taking help of psychometric tests, behavioral tests and other tests to select the right candidates for the right jobs. By Right candidates we mean the candidates with right kind of education, competencies and right attitude.
But only big size organizations can afford to incur costs on conducting psychometric tests or other tests concerned with interview and selection. For small organizations personal interviews are best tools to select employees to fill vacant positions.
If interviews are conducted in the right manner, then it is possible to select right candidates with right kind of skills and knowledge and attitude.
Managers and supervisors are very important layer of employees in any organization as they are the people who supervise and manage the field staff who actually sell the company's products and services in the market.

If managers and supervisors of a company are able
to perform their job productively then the sales of any company can increase in
the same parameters and under the same circumstances. But out of my experience
of working in and observing mid size companies I have to say that supervisory
level in organizations is very weak.
This is the weakest link in the sales
organization of many companies. Because of inherent weaknesses in the working
of supervisory level staff most of companies are suffering with poor sales and
whatever sales they are generating is being generated at a higher cost.
Most of managerial staff in most of FMCG companies do not know their job well. They are lacking analytical abilities and supervisory competencies, They have stale ideas ,are not proficient in skills required of their job function and designation.
Most of managerial staff in most of FMCG companies do not know their job well. They are lacking analytical abilities and supervisory competencies, They have stale ideas ,are not proficient in skills required of their job function and designation.
They have
poor discipline in field, reach late and can not manage distributors well. They
are making cursory and perfunctory visits to towns and expect their junior
staff to solve all the problems.
Field staff level employees are groping in dark as to how to solve the challenges being faced by them to increase their sales or achieve targets month after month.
It is because of above factors that it becomes very important to be careful and patient while recruiting and selecting managerial staff in companies.
Now coming back to the original challenge of how to judge a candidate well during 30 minute personal interview.
Out of of my personal experience I think this can be done by giving the candidate as much time as possible to talk. Interviewer should ask small and specific questions which can give him/her a peep into the attitude and working style of the candidate .
Most of interviewers do the mistake of doing most of talking themselves. They hardly give candidate any chance to express himself/herself. But trust me if you let the candidate speak most of the time , you will be amazed to know a lot of things about his working style, his operating style , his decision making style, grey areas in his/her personality.
The only key is : To ask right type of questions.
and
Then to let the candidate answer question without interrupting him/her.
Now given below are some of the questions that I think can help the interview get a glimpse into the mind and attitude of candidates who has come for the managerial/supervisory interview.
1. Pls tell us briefly about yourself ( To make him comfortable)

6. Which habits of your previous Boss you did not like?

( Everyone makes mistakes, and only those people do mistakes who act )
8.What have been your learning from these mistakes?
