Sales Activities

Scene No, 1

Rajesh is busy working in the market making sales calls to his customers.

He is upbeat as most of his sales calls are productive.

He is in the middle of a sales call when he receives a telephone call from his boss.

Boss: "Rajesh, what are you doing now?"

Rajesh: "Sir, I am working in the market."

Boss: "Leave the market now, and send us your sales plan for the coming week."

Rajesh;"Ok sir, but can I send the same in today evening".

Boss; "No, send it within the next 20 minutes, as I have to present my sales plan for the coming week to my boss within the next 45 minutes, so do it fast."

Rajesh (swearing under his breath); "Ok boss".

Scene 2:

Preetam is sitting with his distributor and discussing the sales plan with him for the current month.

He has checked the stocks and sales of the distributor.

He is about to make the primary sales order of the distributor when he receives a telephone call from the office.

Sales Support Executive from the office;"Preetam, how are you?"

Preetam: "I a fine, what about you?"

Sales Support Executive:" Fine. Please send your pending claim list of all the distributors in your area. I have to make a presentation to GM sales after lunch."

Preetam; "I am making the primary order of the distributor now. Can I do it after one hour?".

Executive: "No. Please do it now as I have to compile the pending claim list of all salespeople and present it. Compiling the list will take time. Pls, do it now, for me. Please.?

Preetam, "Ok".

The distributor's order vanished from his mind and he took a pen and paper out from his bag.

One of the many factors that affect the productivity of salespeople is the non-sales producing activities.

A stark reality of the sales profession is that many salespeople spend more time on non-revenue-generating activities than they spend on sales-generating activities.

There are two kinds of activities in sales:

Sales Producing Activities:

And Non-sales Producing Activities.

Let us have a look at these Activities.

Sales Producing Activities:

- Making sales calls,

- sending sales-related emails.

- Doing a market survey

Non-sales Activities:

- Talking too much with colleagues.

- Attending too many mobile calls from seniors and the office DURING work Time.

- Filling too many forms or making so many sales reports that no one reads.

- Checking FB and Whatsapp too often.
(most time eater activity)

Most salespeople spend less time on sales producing acts and...
...more on non-sales producing activities.

Which activities your team spends the most time on?

Pls comment.
