How To Travel Better on Sales Tours
"How To Travel Better on Sales Tours"
If as sales people you utilize your travelling time productively then it can help you increase your skills and also use this travel time to distress yourselves.
Another major requirement of sales profession is that of staying outside home ,away from friends and family members in hotels.
Hotels become second homes of most of sales people as here again major part of their working month is spent staying in hotels, and hotels are hotels and not homes. Sales people have to accept whatever services are offered by the hotels. This also helps in developing a lot of patience and tolerance in sales people regarding the food quality or room quality or the kind of services provided by different hotels.
Today we will explore some of the ways, the sales people can make these two necessary aspects of their job life more productive and more enjoyable.
So we will start first with making travelling more joyful and more productive.
1. Travel Light and Travel Comfortably:
Always travel with one carry bag only. Invest in some good travel bag trolley with wheels. Invest in a trolley which is large enough to contain your working bag in it . This will ensure that you travel with trolley only. Trolley will help you save some money on coolie expenses as you can drag your trolley easily on your own. Trolley also makes it easy to walk fast while moving on platforms. Do not carry unnecessary things while travelling. Travel as light as possible to make your travel comfortable.
Always carry accessories with you to help lock your bag during travel time so as to ensure safe travel.
While travelling in bus, avoid sitting on seats which are directly above tyres of the bus as those seats are not comfortable due to less leg space and also due to extra bumps these seats experience whenever bus traverses a speed breaker.
While on choosing seats in bus, always try to pick seats which are in the middle of the bus so as to take a little precaution of safety from accidents on road.
2. Buy Accidental Insurance:
Most sales people do not buy accident insurance. It is out our carelessness and lack of awareness about the premiums to be paid for accidental insurance. Being in sales means most of time you are travelling on different modes. More frequent travel entails that you must invest in a good insurance policy to cover against accidents or other mis-happening during travel. Never worry about the annual premium you have to pay for this accidental insurance. Spending a few thousand rupees a month to ensure coverage against accidental claims is not a bad investment. Every sales person must buy these insurance policies on the first day of the year.
At the same time buy this accident insurance policy from the govt. run company as govt. run companies are better than private run companies. However from where you buy this policy is entirely your choice. But before buying these policies please understand the policy in clear terms like what is covered under the policy, how the claims are settled etc.
3. Avail services of a travel agent:
Always travel with advance bookings to ensure that you travel comfortably during your journey. Travelling without reservations can cause a lot of problems during journey aka travelling without a seat. Though sales job may require travel to some of towns at short notice due to immediate or urgent business demands, but it is always better to avail services of a professional travel agent to help you travel with advance reservations and bookings. This small care will ensure you travel comfortably and reach your destination with energy and mood intact.
Investing in commission paid to travel agent for getting your travel arrangements made in advance is a good investment and most of companies allow the charges paid to travel agents. But even if the same is not reimbursed by the company , even then it is always a good way to spend some money to ensure a comfortable journey.
4. Prefer Train Travel to Bus Travel:
As far as possible always travel by train as compared to bus/road. Only in case of non feasibility of train timings or other reservation related issues, travel by bus or by road. Train travel is always comfortable as compared to bus. Seating in trains is more comfortable as compared to buses. Travelling by train also provides comfortable sitting to help complete official paper work and prepare other reports. Utilizing travel time in trains to prepare working reports or complete other official paper work is a great way to save time which can be spent more productively on pursuing some hobby.
5. Read/Listen to a book or magazine:
If you are fond of reading, then please use your travel time to read a book or magazine or newspaper to utilize your travelling time more productively. It would be better if you read book/magazine that deals with management or sales. Reading habits relevant to your profession will help you learn more concepts about your profession and will also keep you abreast of latest developments in the field of sales and marketing.
You can also catch up on self development books to help improve your skills and learn some effective habits and drop non productive habits. You never know which skill or a good habit may help you grow in your professional and personal life.
However, if you are not fond of reading then use your Smartphone to listen to some audio books. Or you can listen to music to distress yourself during travelling.
Or you can study data regarding your customers or think of ways to achieve your sales plans for the month. You can plan strategies for achieving your sales numbers during this time.
Do something productive of your choice, while travelling, which is not disturbing to your co travelers so that you add to your knowledge or well being during your travel time. But please do not let your travel time just go by unproductively.
6. Eat Healthy During Travel:
Due to the very nature of their jobs, sales people have to stay away from their homes and their families and they have to eat outside.
Quality of food at most of places outside is not very good as sales people have to CREATE time to catch up on their lunch or snacks.
While in most of cases the sales people cannot be choosy about where they eat and what they eat as they have to satisfy their hunger with whatever is on offer at the place they are visiting.
But during travelling you must eat healthy. While travelling always carry nuts, fruits with you to satisfy your hunger in a healthy way.
It is better to avoid taking oily snacks which seem so tempting like namkeens, wafers, biscuits, but are not healthy. During travelling you remain in a passive mode with your body in a comfortable posture which requires that you must consume foods which are digested easily thus putting less burden on your digestive system and thus conserve your energies.
